"Walking barefoot is natural for humans, but in our modern society it cannot always be done safely. I was delighted to accept naBOSo's offer to try out the root carpet from the Rooty rug brand.

The carpet simulates tree roots. It is quite hard and quite rough, which surprised me, but it is very pleasant for the feet. It doesn't have a high pile, so it's easy to maintain (just shake out or vacuum with a nozzle). The design is acceptable for me, the children will have it in their room in time, but you can choose more neutral colours and shapes. It is a sensorimotor aid that stimulates the foot, supports proper foot arch, helps improve stability of the lower limbs, children can train balance on it. I placed it in a strategic location in the passage between the living room and kitchen, so we cross it many times a day, and the children sometimes play on it too."

How does it work?

When walking on the root carpet, feet encounter the protruding elements of the carpet, which form irregularly arranged roots. Just like in a forest. Receptors in the feet "feel" them and activate muscles that would otherwise remain unused on a flat floor. In this simple way, we exercise the entire foot without having to exercise purposefully.

This is crucial for small children who are still building their movement patterns.
